PowerPlay Golf is easy to learn and great fun!
Just one game and you’re hooked. It is a 9-hole Stableford with a twist. There are two Flags on each green - a White and a Black Flag with the Black Flag in the more difficult location. You have 3 PowerPlays in the first 8 holes. You score double points for net birdie or better when playing to the Black Flag but with only 3 PowerPlays available in your first 8 holes you must choose your PowerPlays wisely.
And on the last hole, it’s decision time. A last-hole PowerPlay birdie or eagle wins double points, and possibly the tournament … but failure to make par spells disaster – you lose 3 points for bogey or worse on a last-hole
GENERAL
1. The stipulated round in PowerPlay Golf Strokeplay is 9 holes.
DEFINITIONS
2. Two holes are cut on each putting green, one with a White Flag and one with a Black Flag. The ‘White Flag’ hole location is considered easy to play, and the ‘Black Flag’ hole location is considered more difficult to play.
3. Going for a ‘PowerPlay’ means playing to the Black Flag.
GOING FOR A ‘POWERPLAY’
4. A player must go for exactly three PowerPlays in the first eight holes.
5. Players must nominate their PowerPlays before their tee shot.
6. On the ninth hole, players can go for a bonus ‘PowerPlay’ at greater risk (see Rule 10).
SCORING POINTS
7. Scoring in PowerPlay Golf Strokeplay is by the Stableford points system.
8. When not going for a PowerPlay (i.e. when playing to the White Flag), players score normal Stableford points.
Namely:
Net Double Bogey or worse 0 points
Net Bogey 1 point
Net Par 2 points
Net Birdie 3 points
Net Eagle 4 points
Net Albatross 5 points
9. When going for PowerPlay (i.e. when playing to the Black Flag), players score double points for a Net Birdie or better. Scoring is therefore as follows:
Net Double Bogey or worse 0 points
Net Bogey 1 point
Net Par 2 points
Net Birdie 6 points (PowerPlay)
Net Eagle 8 points (PowerPlay)
Net Albatross 10 points (PowerPlay)
10. Players face decision time on the ninth (last) tee. Either play it safe to the White Flag (protect your score), or go for a final bonus PowerPlay to the Black Flag for a potential last-hole points boost – but at the risk of a last-hole points penalty of minus three points on that hole if they score a Net Bogey or worse.
PowerPlay Golf can provide the perfect corporate golf event - it is different, exciting and lasts for only a few hours so can be played in the early summer evening for example.
